Hermann Bearcats Football - Nine Hermann MO players named 2010 All-Four Rivers Conference

Nine Hermann players received recognition on the 2010 All-Four Rivers Conference football team, selected by the league's coaches.
Senior Phil Wright was the only unanimous pick from Hermann. He made the first team as a tight end.
Senior Trey Thomas was named to the first team as a wide receiver, and earned second team honors as a defensive back.
Other Hermann players who earned second team honors were junior Justin Wurtz, defensive back and wide receiver; junior Dalton Grosse, linebacker; senior Brett Houska, defensive end; junior Brett Eckelkamp, defensive tackle; and senior Gregory Brandt, offensive line.
Two other players, Ryan Gonzales and Lucas Budnik, were on the honorable mention list. Gonzales, a junior, was selected as a defensive end while Budnik, a senior, was named as a quarterback.
The conference's Player of the Year on offense was Union's Chris Savage, a junior quarterback who led the Wildcats to the league title and into the state playoffs.
Defensive Player of the Year award went to Ryan Cooper, a 6-foot senior from Owensville. His team also qualified for the state playofs.
Coach of the Year was Brent Eckley of Union, whose team lost in the Class 4 state quarterfinals to Webb City.
The Union Wildcats won the Four Rivers Conference title this fall with a 6-0 record.
The Wildcats, St. Clair and the Owensville Dutchmen all advanced into the state playoffs.
Webb City defeated Union, 42-7, in a Class 4 state quarterfinal game Nov. 13 at Webb City. The Cardinals were 14-0 heading into the state title game against Warrenton (11-3) at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis and totally outperformed Warrenton in a 56-7 rout of the Warriors, who were in their first state final.
Owensville lost in the Class 3 quarterfinals to Bowling Green, 42-7, in a game played Nov. 13 at Owensville. The Dutchmen ended their season with an 11-2 record. St. Clair lost to Hillcrest of Springfield, 49-28, in the first round of the Class 4 state playoffs.
