Statement as of 3:48 PM CST on November 24, 2010 ... Flash Flood Watch in effect through late tonight... The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of Illinois and Missouri... including the following counties... in Illinois... Bond IL... Calhoun IL... Fayette IL... Greene IL... Jersey IL... Macoupin IL... Madison IL... Monroe IL... Montgomery IL and St. Clair IL. In Missouri... Crawford MO... Franklin MO... Gasconade MO... Jefferson MO... Lincoln MO... Osage MO... St. Charles MO... St. Louis city MO... St. Louis MO... Warren MO and Washington MO. * Through late tonight * two to three inches of rain has already fallen across the area... and an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is likely tonight. * The ground is already saturated from heavy rain earlier today... so the additional heavy rainfall tonight will likely cause flash flooding on area creeks... streams... and small rivers. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. People in the watch area should be aware of the possibility of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. Check your preparedness requirements... especially if you live in flood prone areas. Stay informed... and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

Record daily maximum rainfall set at St. Louis today... a record rainfall of 1.77 inches has already occurred today at Lambert international Airport in St. Louis. This breaks the previous record of 1.73 inches set in 1987. With rain currently falling and more forecast between now and midnight... the daily total will be higher by midnight. This record report will be updated around 4:30 PM this afternoon and then a final report will be issued after midnight with the total for the entire day.
