Jeff Bridges One Hot Ticket: Two New Movies This Month

Jeff Bridges: The Dude takes on the Duke

BY JOE WILLIAMS • Post-Dispatch Film Critic

Let's make it official: It's Jeff Bridges' world, and the rest of us are just living in it.

No actor is having a better year than Bridges at age 61. He's the reigning Oscar winner, for "Crazy Heart," the drunken-troubadour story that was released last December. This week, he'll have two hotly anticipated movies in theaters: the just-released sci-fi sequel "TRON: Legacy," which also features a computer-generated version of his younger self, and the Western remake "True Grit," which opens locally Wednesday.

Bridges does commercial voice-overs for batteries and imported cars. He's published a book of his on-set photographs and is working on his second record album. He's on the cover of GQ for its Man of the Year issue. And "The Big Lebowski," his zesty little enterprise with the Coen brothers, may be the most quoted comedy in history.

Relatively late in a half-century acting career, Bridges has become such a fixture in our lives that audiences think they know him. But the dude is not the Dude.
