Franklin County Sheriff Traffic Stop Leads to Pot Bust

Franklin County authorities discovered approximately 280 pounds of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.2 million, in an RV during a traffic stop on I-44 near St. Clair Tuesday. A Sheriff's deputy stopped the RV after he noticed it driving erratically, at times crossing the dividing line, the Sheriff's department said.
 
During the stop, the two suspects, Erik B. Romani, 30, and Molly F. Brenner, 43, both of Sausalito, Calif.,  began acting suspiciously, the department said. Suspecting possible drug activity, the deputy called for a K-9 unit from Pacific. The K-9 indicated there were drugs in the vehicle. A search turned up the marijuana, the department said.

Romani and Brenner were taken into custody for questioning.
They were later charged in Franklin County felony warrants with one count each of drug trafficking. They were being held in the county jail on $50,000 cash-only bonds, authorities reported.
