A plan to replace New Haven's aging Olive Street bridge took another step Monday evening when aldermen accepted the low bids for the project. The bids were submitted by Vedder Excavating, New Haven, and KJ Unnerstall Construction, Washington. Now, the city will enlist the help of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

"This is a federally funded project administered by MoDOT," City Administrator Steve Roth explained. "The board's action [Monday] night was to accept all the alternates, then to ask for MoDOT's concurrance in awarding the contracts to the low bidder."

Shortly after a contract is finalized, a contractor could be on scene, possibly by April or May, Roth said.
The city is not only looking to replace the bridge on Olive Street, but also realign the road to correct a sharp turn.
