Adam Deiab went to study abroad for the experience of a lifetime.  He's getting it as a witness to history in Egypt.
He flew to Cairo a week ago Thursday as tension mounted and violence started getting out of control.  He mother, Pamela says had he been scheduled to leave last Friday, he wouldn't have gone.
His first 14 hours in Cairo were spent at the airport which he wasn't allowed to leave.  His family had no idea where he was or if he was okay because cell phone service and internet wasn't available then.
"We were just concerned, where's our child?" Pamela Deiab told us.
When Adam finally did leave the airport he headed for his destination, American University, which was closed.  He decided to go to Suez where there's some extended family.
"He's pretty much been kept indoors for his own safety but he did travel out once and he was pretty terrified," said his mother.  "Burnt out buildings, glass everywhere, buildings destroyed, cars on fire, people running through the streets throwing rocks.  He says people were looting."
We've seen all that and worse on TV in recent days with police and government vehicles in Cairo, running people over on purpose in the streets.
The U.S. Embassy in Egypt says Adam and all Americans need to get out but that not possible for him right now so he's stuck and hunkered down waiting.
