We notice on a recent web search Hermann Mo News again was found on PAGE 1. We also noticed that the web site that keeps claiming to break local web Traffic Records, was also on page 1 but under 'Sponsored Links,' THAT MEANS THE HAD TO PAY $$$ TO GET ON PAGE 1. If they really are so popular, why is it they have to pay to get recognized by google?
See for yourself, CLICK ON link below:

A local Hermann Missouri website has made a very odd claim of 10,000+ page views in a single day. The site in question does not appear to have enough content to explain this high volume. So we checked it out.
Alexa Rank: | 116078 Down 31155 ranks. |
WE SEE NO SPIKE IN ALEXA GRAPH ABOVE!!!
Page Views does NOT necessarily mean increased traffic. If the same people keep returning over and over that would boost page views. It should also be noted that when you land on web site and they only offer a headline and one sentence description and then you click READ MORE, you have just been counted as 2 page views to read ONE story. Even worse, you finish reading the story, then what...you click on HOME and...yet another page view is counted...that's 3 PAGE VIEWS and you only read ONE STORY!!!

If you are a subscriber and log in, that also counts as an added page view. There are many techniques web sites use to boost page view numbers. In other words, bragging about page views is very self serving and really doesn't SELL ANYTHING!!!
Lets Review:
1) You land at the web site = 1 page view
2) You Login = another 1 page view
3) You Land on the sites HOME page = another 1 page view
4) You find a story your interested in and click READ MORE = another 1 page view
5) You Finish reading the story and then click HOME because there is nothing left on the page to read this =
another 1 page view
SUMMARY OF 1-5
If you are a subscriber to the un-named web site to read one story on that web site totals 5 counted Page Views, in fact any time you click on anything on a web site it counts as a Page View unless that click takes you to a totally different web site, then it is considered an exit link.
In other words, bragging about page views is very self serving and really DOESN'T SELL ANYTHING!!!

Why Didn't They Provide A Link to Prove Their Claim?

Beware the charlatan ad men, fast-talking salesmen and slick marketers!
ReplyDeleteI hate those sites which put a sentence or two on page 1 and then make you "click thru" on "Read More" to read the rest of a short report. Just a cheap gimmick to double their "page view" statistics which they use to sell ad space to busy unsuspecting advertisers! A smart advertiser sets up his advertising so that he can track which ads are actually bringing new business through his front door.

Poor Richard - Thanks for the tip! I will be careful. Allen
ReplyDeleteAppalling! I didn't know this happened!
ReplyDeleteStunning!
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked, shocked to find that a website operator would make such outlandish, uncorroborated claims! Yes, Ricky I'm very shocked!
ReplyDeleteAnother example of "OVER-PROMISE AND UNDER-DELIVER!"
ReplyDeleteNo kiddin'!? Payin' to get on Page 1 of a
ReplyDeleteGoogle search! Sponsored ad! Wonder what ya gotta pay for such a thing?!
Payin' for ads, sellin' ads, self-promotin' your own website! It all takes a lot of dad-burned time!
Ha ha ha!
Guess you're sunk now, Poor Richard! How ya gonna keep up 'lessin you start buying ads yourself! Wanna buy an ad on Hermann Hearsay?

Looks like the bullshit-o-meter is fired back up again. You would think his arm would never heal from patting himself on the back all the time! Glad I'm not the only one who sees it that way. Keep up the great work Ricky were proud of you.
ReplyDeleteIf you understand google's use of algorithms in determining search results, you would not waste your money on sponsored ads.
ReplyDeleteI never click on a sponsored ads because they are a waste your time. 99% of the time, the sponsored ad doesn't even apply to what you are specifically looking for!

Thanks Richard your right on the mark again! I noticed this before when I logged on to the Brand X website their viewers always doubled. I'm glad I haven't wasted my time or money on this scam. Since you report facts and truth you will succeed were the others will fail. Cletus and Fred
ReplyDeleteWord-of-mouth advertising is the best! If people like the quality of your content, they will tell other people! Continuously improve your content and people will rush to your blog! Every minute spent on worrying about what your competitor is doing is a minute that you don't have to improve your own blog site! So simple!
ReplyDeleteI concur Mr. Deming!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words Fred & Cletus!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate learning the meaning and entymology of the word "Gasconade". Pretty interesting!
ReplyDeleteSelf-promotion, self-aggrandizement! Wouldn't it be much better (and less costly) to focus on the quality and quantity of website content, so that one's readers would tell others about the wonderful website they had found?! I know you agree with me, Poor Richard.
I like the changes you have made to your website format. That's continuous improvement and those are the kind of improvements that will attract more readers to your site! Keep focusing on QUALITY! Readers are searching for QUALITY content that is also FREE! Let the others run around like chickens with their heads cut off over-selling their sites, over-charging their subscribers and advertisers, over-promising and under-delivering, focusing on what their competitors are doing rather than what their customers are wanting!
I can't believe that this "cyber war" is raging right here in Hermann!
ReplyDeleteCaveat emptor.
ReplyDeleteWere I an advertiser, I would make that website publisher a deal. For each person (prospective buyer) who tells me that they heard about my products or services through the online website, I will pay a $5 finder fee. If they actually purchase my product/service, I will pay them $15. I pay for results ... not page views! Fair enough, doncha think?!
"Snow Job Central" - We will snow your ass every chance we get!
ReplyDeleteWhy become a middleman for Snow Jobs? Information mining, you get name, address, phone number, IP address. All that info can then be sold to other internet marketers and racketeers.
