Kansas City police hunt for clues on missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin

__________________________________________________________________________ (CBS/KCTV/AP) KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Detectives looking for missing 10-month-old, Kansas City infant Lisa Irwin are struggling to find leads in the investigation Wednesday after an intense search a day earlier turned up few substantial clues, police said.  . . Lisa was last seen on Monday around 10:30 p.m. when her mother put her to bed in a crib, police said. Her father, who is an electrician, arrived home from an overnight shift about 4 a.m. . . He discovered Lisa missing and frantically called police, friends and family tell CBS affiliate KCTV. Authorities are speculating that the suspect entered through a bedroom window and snatched the baby from her bed as she was sleeping. Police said they issued the Amber Alert about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday in part because Lisa lived with both of her parents, who were at home and are accounted for. The alert was cancelled at 7 p.m. since the public awareness has been raised but police said they would continue to search for the baby. More than 100 law enforcement officials are looking for the girl. This includes local, state and federal officers including agents from the FBI. Officers on horseback are involved in the search along with police dogs. Firefighters with rappelling equipment are also assisting. The couple has two other young children who have also been interviewed. Police discounted the notion that Lisa could have crawled away. "The family is being cooperative with detectives," said Capt. Steve Young said reports the station."If there were any holes in their story, we would know by now. There are no holes in their stories. . . . There is a 10-month-old who isn't where she belongs and we are trying to find her. We will keep going bigger as long as we need to." Lisa has blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 30 inches tall and weighs between 26 and 30 pounds. She was last seen wearing purple shorts and a purple shirt with white kittens on it. The baby is described as having two bottom teeth, a small bug bite under her left ear, a beauty mark on her right outer thigh and currently has a cold with a cough. One neighbor told police that a stranger was seen walking with a baby wearing only a diaper about 1 a.m. in the street by the baby's home. Young said police are investigating this tip and ask for any and all tips from the public. A skull found last month has now been identified. It was discovered near a creak on the Warren Lincoln County line. Tests now reveal that it belongs to Nicholas Coppola. He was reported missing last December. Officials say there is no sign of foul play at this point.

Foristell Police Chief Douglas Johnson released new details Wednesday about missing Mizzou student Nicholas Michael Coppola.
Johnson said that police now believe Coppola may be in the Warrenton area in an abandoned building or vacant home. Coppola was arrested Dec. 12 by Warrenton police for breaking into an empty house. He apparently sought shelter after his 1998 Suburu Legacy ran out of gas on Interstate 70 earlier that day.
Coppola left his wallet and cell phone in his car and did not attempt to call anyone for help after his car stopped running or after he was arrested, Johnson said.
"It is odd," he said. "But from what I understand he had become somewhat of an introvert."
 Coppola was booked at the Warren County Jail but was released at 5:40 p.m. after the homeowner refused to press charges against him, Johnson said. Coppola walked away from the jail.

FORISTELL • Police are looking for a missing University of Missouri-Columbia student from Weldon Spring.
Foristell Police Chief Douglas Johnson said Nicholas Michael Coppola, 25, hasn't been seen since his mother visited his apartment in Columbia on Dec. 10. His 1998 Subaru Legacy was found abandoned on Interstate 70 eastbound just west of the Foristell exit at about 1 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Johnson said officers found Coppola's cell phone and wallet in the car. The driver's seat was reclined, he said.
Johnson said Coppola's father's birthday was on Dec. 15, and family members believe he may have been traveling home. Johnson said friends described Coppola as having been quiet and secluded lately.
Coppola is 6-feet-1-inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds and has blue eyes. He wears black-framed glasses.

MISSOURI COLD CASE and MISSING: State Highway Patrol Most Wanted - Timothy Thomas Coombs

TIMOTHY COOMBS, commonly known as JAMES WILSON or Cal Liberty, is wanted for First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. He is a suspect in the shooting of a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper, who was shot, sniper-style, through the kitchen window of his home. Group raises awareness of 1,200 missing Missourians

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Even though she was just a child at the time, Martha Hamilton can still vividly recall the day her sister went missing.
She remembers playing in the yard with a group of neighborhood kids. She remembers when one of the adults first noticed that her sister was no longer among them. There was a frantic search of the house and then police were quickly called. It’s all still fresh in Hamilton’s mind, even though it took place in 1965.
“She was playing in the yard with some of the older kids in the family, and then suddenly they noticed that Beth was not there,” she said.
Hamilton’s sister, Elizabeth, is the longest currently missing child in the state of Missouri. But even though it’s been 46 years, the pain has never fully gone away.
On Friday, Hamilton shared her sister’s story with dozens of others who’ve endured similar losses, speaking at the fourth annual Missing or Unidentified Persons Awareness Day at the state capitol building.
It’s the product of a group called Missouri Missing, which tries to raise awareness and provide support for families of missing persons. Currently more than 1,200 Missourians are listed as missing or unidentified. Their faces adorned buttons and t-shirts, worn by family members who continue to hope their loved ones will one day be found.
Missouri Missing was first started in 2007 by two mothers who had lost children. Marianne Asher-Chapman’s daughter, Angie, first went missing in 2003. Although Angie’s husband ultimately confessed in 2008 to killing his wife, her body has never been recovered and Asher-Chapman still considers her daughter missing.
Part of the reason Asher-Chapman wanted to start an awareness group for missing persons is the frustration she ran into dealing with investigators. Many missing person cases are left to languish if they are not solved immediately.
“The first three or four years were hideous – hideous,” she said. “The last couple of years we had new investigators that took over. They were wonderful. They helped me a lot. We still don’t have her. She’s still missing, but they work – they worked the case.”
One of the group’s main goals has been to establish June 17 as a day for raising awareness. It’s the day four years ago that the daughter of Peggy Florence, the other founder of the organization, went missing. Gov. Jay Nixon issued an official proclamation to mark the event and Asher-Chapman said that other states have slowly been joining the effort.
“Eight other states last year chose June 17 for their state and it is my hope that someday it will be National Missing and Unidentified Awareness Day,” she said.

Foul play is now being suspected by the Cole County Sheriff's Department in the disappearance of Jasmine Haslag.
Haslag was last seen a month ago when she was going to Bland, Mo., to pick up her children. Her vehicle was recovered by the Callaway County Sheriff's Department in a wooded area off of highway 94.

Details of Disappearance
Jasmine was last seen at approximately 12:00pm at her residence in the 13000 block Minnie St. in Russellville, MO. Jasmine was scheduled to pick up her children the following day in Bland, Missouri. Her vehicle was later found abandoned on Rt PP of Hwy 94 in Callaway County across the Missouri River.

UPDATED Body found in Berkeley cemetery identified : Overland Man William Shoemate Jr. Missing More Than 2 Months, MISSOURI ALERT

Berkeley, MO - The Major Case Squad of Great St. Louis has revealed the identity of a body found in Washington Park Cemetery.


Police said the body of 48-year-old William E. Shoemate of St. Louis was found in the cemetery Tuesday afternoon.


Shoemate was last seen at his home in the 9600 block of Echo Lane in Overland on December 7 at 7:45 a.m. Shoemate made no contact with friends or family since that time.

Police were called about 11 a.m. Tuesday, by a motorist who spotted the deteriorating body in Washington Park Cemetery, just east of the airport near the intersection of James S. McDonnell Boulevard and Natural Bridge Road. The Major Case Squad was called in to assist in the case.

Overland, MO (KSDK) -- Police in Overland are asking for the public's help in finding a 48-year-old man who's been missing for over a month.
According to Detective Kyle Horneker, a police spokesman, William Shoemate Jr. was last seen at his home in the 9600 block of Echo Lane in Overland on December 7 at 7:45 a.m. The family does not know if Shoemate walked away or left with someone else. He does not own a car.
Shoemate has not had any contact with friends or family since that time.
Family describes Shoemate as a Caucasian man, standing 5'9" and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair, and was last seen wearing Wrangler jeans, a blue shirt, white tennis shoes and a large blue coat. His hair is now just above his shoulders, which he sometimes pulls back to a ponytail.

Three arrested for abandoning corpse in Arnold, Death of Missing High Ridge Woman Jessica Yvonne Eberhardt

Eberhardt worked at Steak 'n Shake in the Gravois Bluffs Mall in Fenton.
Eberhardt has a six-year-old son who is now staying with his grandparents.
Her funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Kutis Funeral Home on Lemay Ferry.



Police investigating a High Ridge woman's death said today they have arrested three people for abandoning her corpse.
The body of Jessica Eberhardt, 26, was found in the passenger seat of her mother's snow-covered Ford Taurus early Tuesday morning on the parking lot of the St. Anthony's Urgent Care Center in Arnold. She was last seen Dec. 20.
Police said foul play is not suspected, and that Eberhardt may have died from a drug overdose.
On Thursday morning, Arnold police Lt. Nick McBroom confirmed that police had arrested three people in connection with the death investigation.
McBroom said the three suspects were booked and released pending charges. A detective will be seeking charges today from the Jefferson County prosecuting attorney's office.
McBroom described the three as a 32-year-old woman from the Arnold area, a 21-year-old man from Imperial, and a 21-year-old woman from the Arnold area.
In addition to abandonment of a corpse, they were arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer, McBroom said.
McBroom declined to discuss details about what the three allegedly did; he said more information would become available once charges are filed.
Abandonment of a corpse is a class-D felony in Missouri, punishable by up to four years in prison. Missouri law says a person commits the crime if the person "abandons, disposes, deserts or leaves a corpse without properly reporting the location of the body to the proper law enforcement officials in that county."

The body of a missing High Ridge woman was found early this morning inside her mother's snow-covered car, which was parked on the lot of an urgent care center in Arnold.
Police say the blue Ford Taurus was recovered about 3 a.m. -- and inside was the body of Jessica Yvonne Eberhardt, 26, of High Ridge. Police haven't told relatives how she died. Eberhardt was last seen Dec. 20.
Police released few details at a news conference this afternoon, but said they did not suspect foul play in her death.
Eberhardt's mother, Kim Eberhardt, told the Post-Dispatch that she was called to the police station this morning and asked about her daughter's tattoos.
When the mother confirmed what they were, police showed her pictures of the dead woman's wrist with a tattoo her mother had mentioned. That is how Kim Eberhardt identified the body of her daughter.
"They found her in her car, in the passenger's side," Kim Eberhardt said.
Arnold police Lt. Nick McBroom said the car was found in an employee parking area of the urgent care center. He said it had been there since early in the week but would not be more specific.
He said autopsy results are expected in four to six weeks.
Police told Jessica Eberhardt's family this morning that they are continuing to talk with people last seen with her.
"Hopefully they can find out who drove the car there," Kim Eberhardt said.
Kim Eberhardt said relatives had been out searching for her daughter and the car since Dec. 20. They searched nearby but not the urgent care lot.
"My youngest girl went to the movie theater across the street (from the urgent care center), and to Save-A-Lot, and this and that," Kim Eberhardt said.
And the snowfall on Christmas Eve would have covered the car's magnetic American flag sticker on the trunk that made it easily identifiable, she added.

The Jefferson County sheriff's office is investigating the disappearance of Jessica Yvonne Eberhardt, 26, of High Ridge, who was last seen Dec. 20. Lt. She is 26, about 5-foot-7, weighs between 175 and 200 pounds, and has green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights. She has a dream catcher tattoo on her right ankle, a lizard tattoo on her right shoulder, fairy tattoo on her left shoulder and tattoos that say "Steven" on her right wrist. High Ridge, MO (KSDK) -- Jefferson County authorities are looking for a 26-year-old mother who has been missing for a week.
Police say Jessica Eberhardt was last seen driving away from her High Ridge apartment. Investigators do not suspect foul play, but have listed Eberhardt as a missing person.
Eberhardt's parents say Jessica told a live-in friend that she was driving to a title loan business; she hasn't been seen since.
Jessica works at the Steak 'n' Shake in the Gravois Bluffs Mall in Fenton.

Canceled: MISSOURI AMBER ALERT: Missing Mo. toddler found safe in Iowa

A 2-year-old girl who was taken from her western Missouri home Thursday morning by a woman claiming to a child welfare worker was found safe about nine hours later in Iowa, authorities said.
Two people were with Syah D. Duffey when Iowa State Highway Patrol officers stopped a vehicle about 5:45 p.m. near the Des Moines suburb of Mitchellville, the Cass County Sheriff's Department said.

No other information about the stop or the people with the girl was immediately released. Mitchellville is about 210 miles northeast of the Cass County town of East Lynne, where Syah lives with her mother.

Authorities had issued an Amber Alert for Syah around 2:30 p.m., six hours after the woman came to the home in East Lynne, about 35 miles south of Kansas City, and drove away with the child in a dirty white van with Iowa license plates.

Syah's grandmother, Karrie Ratkewicz, told local media outlets that the family believed the woman has ties to the girl's father, who hasn't met the child but talks to her on the telephone frequently. Ratkewicz said the girl's father lives in Iowa.

Cass County sheriff's Cpl. Kevin Tieman said the case was being treated as a stranger abduction because the woman, who claimed to be an Iowa child welfare worker, wasn't known to anyone in Syah's family.

Tieman said Syah's mother didn't immediately contact authorities because she was trying to verify with family members why the girl was taken.

"We now know it was not any legitimate reason the child would have been taken, but the mother wasn't able to confirm that until 90 minutes later," Tieman said.
