All it took was one false news report on one of the most trending stories in the world to create a snowball effect on the news industry.
Here’s what Fox News reported about Egypt’s new vice president...
“Fox News has exclusively learned that there was an assassination attempt on Omar Suleiman.”
...and here’s what happened.
“Reports are coming in that Egyptian vice president Omar Suleiman has survived an assassination bid.” (IBN)
“Egyptian vice president Omar Suleiman survived an assassination attempt that left two of his body guards dead.” (NewsX)
So...are the rumors true? CNN, who had false reports from a German diplomat, is just as baffled as everyone else.
“So again, I mean I think where we are now, is a confusing situation, but a retraction from the German ambassador saying that there was not a confirmed report of an assassination...”
Al Masry Al Youm reports its heard a different theory-- and says, perhaps the news was spread on purpose.
“...informed sources dismissed the news as false, adding that Suleiman was not even at the place where the claimed assassination attempt took place. The statements also accused the Muslim Brotherhood of circulating rumors.”
