Hermann Celebrates Final Weekend Of Oktoberfest

The city of Hermann is in its final weekend of the month-long Oktoberfest celebration. Oktoberfest runs the first four weekends of October, and features activities and events at many Hermann area businesses.
Going into the final weekend, Hermann Tourism Director Jim Grebing told KLPW the month had been amazing. "Last weekend we had over 30,000 people here just on Saturday. The week before that we had around 20,000," Grebing said.

New 401(k) disclosure rules will improve retirement plans

The federal Labor Department published regulations this week that will force employers to disclose all 401(k) fees, along with performance information in a standardized format. Beginning in 2012, each quarterly statement will say, in dollars and cents, how much you've paid in investment management fees, administrative costs and other expenses.
The disclosure undoubtedly will shock some workers.
"People are going to say, 'We didn't know there were any fees,'" says Sean Duggan, a 401(k) consultant at Moneta Group in Clayton.
"Some of them will be angry," adds Robert Higgins, a senior consultant with Benefit Plans Plus in Creve Coeur.
Anger can be healthy, though. In the current system, workers — and even many employers — have no idea what they're paying. A separate set of regulations, announced earlier this year, will arm employers with better information.

Fox Sports And DISH: Attorney General Chris Koster Gets Involved

Fox Sports Midwest, as well as the FX and National Geographic networks, remain off Dish Network because of a dispute over money. And Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster is of the opinion that Dish customers who have long-term deals with that satellite provider should either have their bill reduced because those channels no longer are included, or be allowed to cancel their contracts without penalty. "Essentially, subscribers are paying for the cost of receiving Fox programming when they are not, and Dish Network is being unjustly enriched by engaging in this unfair practice," he said Thursday in a statement.. Mizzou Gearing Up For ESPN "College GameDay" Crew

The Missouri Tigers are gearing up for Saturday night's Homecoming contest against the Oklahoma Sooners. An already big matchup between the 16th-ranked Tigers and third-ranked Sooners is made even more so by the arrival of ESPN's "College GameDay" crew. The popular college football pre-game show will set up shop in Columbia this weekend for Saturday's big showdown. Oklahoma is ranked first in the BCS Standings, while Mizzou checks in at number-11.

Friday night, in District game #2, the Bearcats face Blair Oaks from Jefferson City.

Vehicle fire, last night, Hwy. H

At about 7:00 p.m. last night, a vehicle caught fire at the edge of a field next to Hwy. H in the southeastern edge of Hermann, about 100 yards from the city limits.
The vehicle was fully engulfed and flames were shooting 15 to 20 feet into the air.  Hermann firefighters arrived quickly and the fire was
