Obama Five Times Worse Than Carter on Economy: UsNews Internet poll

_________________________________________________________________________

Poll: Obama Five Times Worse Than Carter on Economy

September 8, 2011usnews.com
__________________________________________________________________________

Two new polls today find that just one third of the public feels President Obama deserves re-election while five times more Americans think Obama has done a worse job fixing the economy than Jimmy Carter, the modern era's Herbert Hoover.
Washington Whispers contributor John Zogby tells us that his new polling is spirit-crushing for the depressed White House. "It was a very bad week for Barack Obama. Our polling shows his job approval at 39 percent and the percentage saying he deserves re-election at 33 percent, both the lowest of his term, while the percentage of voters saying the nation is on the wrong track reached a high since he took office at 75 percent," he said.
With job growth at zero last month and the president sinking, Zogby said there is even more pressure on Obama to hit one out of the park in tonight's jobs speech before a joint session of Congress.
"As so often happens, something with little policy importance, the scheduling of his jobs speech to Congress, becomes a bigger deal by strengthening the media theme that Obama is weak and easily pushed around by the Republicans. He needs to come out swinging in that speech to regain a passing grade," said the pollster.
But the public's view, like wet cement, may be setting when it comes with their dissatisfaction with the president's handling of the economy.
The latest Washington Whispers Internet poll finds that nearly half the nation thinks Obama has been the worst at fixing the economy in modern times. Carter, is seen as more than five times better than Obama on fixing the economy.
We posed the question this way: "Many recent presidents up for reelection have struggled with troubled economies and growing unemployment like the current situation. Which of the following was the worst at fixing the economy?"
President Obama - 47 percent.
George H.W. Bush - 40 percent.
Jimmy Carter - 8 percent.
Ronald Reagan - 5 percent.

Americans Say No Government ID for Online Security, 60 Percent Reject Obama Idea, Rasmussen Poll

_________________________________________________________________________

Poll: 60% Reject Government ID for Online Security

Cape Fear Business News
April 27, 2011
___________________________________________________________________________________

In an effort to enhance online security and privacy, the Obama administration has proposed Americans obtain a single ID for all Internet sales and banking activity. But a new Rasmussen Reports poll finds most Americans want nothing to do with such an ID if the government is the one to issue it and hold the information.
The Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 13% of American Adults favor the issuing of a secure government credential to replace all traditional password protection systems for online sales and banking activities. Sixty percent (60%) oppose such a credential. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure.
Only eight percent (8%) of Americans would be willing to submit their personal financial and purchasing information to the government or a government contractor to receive a secure government credential for online transactions. Seventy-six percent (76%) would not be willing to submit this information for that purpose. Sixteen percent (16%) are undecided.
Aware of concerns that have been raised in the past about a national ID card, the administration appears to be downplaying the government role in the process but is clearly encouraging the development of a single personal credential to limit the security risks from multiple – and more easily hacked – passwords.  Unclear is the role that the Department of Homeland Security, a key mover behind the single credential, will play in the future.
Most adults across virtually all demographic categories oppose the issuance of a single secure government credential for online purposes.
Seventy percent (70%) of Republicans and 65% of adults not affiliated with either major party oppose such a credential. Among Democrats, however, 19% like the idea, 45% oppose it, and 36% are undecided.
But even 64% of Democrats draw the line at providing their financial and purchasing information to the government or a government-designated contractor. Republicans (87%) and unaffiliated adults (79%) are even more adamantly opposed.
Government employees aren’t much more thrilled with the idea than those who work for private companies.
Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Americans are at least somewhat confident in the security of online transactions and banking, including 17% who are Very Confident.
Eighteen percent (18%) of Americans with at least one credit card say they have had credit card information stolen online.  But voters believe free market competition will protect Internet users more than government regulation and fear that regulation will be used to push a political agenda.
The latest findings echo suspicions Americans have voiced about the federal government in the past. In fact, 69% of Likely U.S. Voters remain at least somewhat angry with the current policies of the federal government, up slightly from 65% last August.
Most Americans trust the decisions made by business leaders more than those made by government officials when it comes to the economy and the creation of jobs.
Just 28% of voters believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed.

MEET 'GENERATION NET' Kids Prefer Virtual Life vs Real World

_________________________________________________________________________

Generation net: The youngsters who prefer their virtual lives to the real world

By Liz Thomas
8th February 2011
_________________________________________________________________________

Children are often happier with their online lives than they are with reality, a survey has revealed.
They say they can be exactly who they want to be – and as soon as something is no longer fun they can simply hit the quit button.
The study also shows that, despite concerns about online safety, one in eight young people is in contact with strangers when on the web and often lies about their appearance, age and background.
Researchers for children’s charity Kidscape assessed the online activities of 2,300 11- to 18-year-olds from across the UK and found that 45 per cent said they were sometimes happier online than in their real lives.
The report – Virtual Lives: It is more than a game, it is your life – lays bare the attitudes of children today to the internet and includes revealing insights into how they feel when they are on the web.
Around 47 per cent of children said they behaved differently online than they did in their normal lives with many claiming it made them feel more powerful and confident.

The report found that of those who spoke to strangers online 60 per cent did not tell the truth about their age, and 40 per cent were not honest about personal relationships.

Around 10 per cent said they changed aspects of their appearance and their personality for their online activity.

More American Teens Smoke Marijuana Than Cigarettes - Monitoring the Future Survey

___________________________________________________________________________

More high school seniors this year used marijuana than smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days, according to government data released Tuesday.

In addition, daily marijuana use increased significantly among eighth-, 10th- and 12th-graders, with about one in 16 high school seniors using marijuana daily or near-daily, the annual "Monitoring the Future Survey" found.

Teens in all three grades exhibited more favorable attitudes toward the drug, according to the national survey of more than 46,000 teens.

Marijuana wasn't the only drug that teens increasingly used this year, the survey found. Ecstasy use rose in all three grades, with significant increases among eighth- and 10th-graders. The younger teens may not remember stories about casualties related to Ecstasy, whose use peaked in 2001 and then dropped sharply for about four years, Johnston said.

Use of narcotics other than heroin hasn't changed significantly since 2004, when 9.5% of 12th-graders had used the drugs in the previous year - nearly three times as many as in 1992. Injecting heroin with a needle showed a small but statistically significant increase in 2010
