The Large Fire that was reported near Catholic Church Road was a controlled burn that was started at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, November 21st, and continued into the evening.

Plan to close roads in Missouri Mark Twain National Forest draws complaints

A plan to close several old roads in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri has drawn several complaints.


Poplar Bluff District Ranger Doug Oliver said he has received more than 2,000 complaints about the road closures, which are part of a 2005 forest management plan. He said the closures are also aimed at combatting illegal dumping, drug production and other unwanted activities, like poaching, in the 1.5 million acre forest in central and southern sections of Missouri.

Missouri will revisit 'right to work' law

If your job is covered by a labor union contract in Missouri, you can be forced to pay for union representation.
 
Does that scare off new employers worried about strong unions? Or does it boost the economy by promoting good wages and benefits?

Those questions will be debated in the Legislature next year as the contentious "right to work" issue makes a comeback after more than three decades of dormancy.
 
Fresh from this month's huge election victories, Republican leaders plan to push a right-to-work law as part of their pro-jobs agenda in the legislative session that begins Jan. 5. The package also will include business tax cuts and regulatory changes.
 
Unions adamantly oppose right-to-work laws, which bar labor agreements that require workers to pay for union representation. Many businesses, however, say they can operate more efficiently when unions are less entrenched. . Click Here for more info.

The East Central College Falcons were able to come back with a big victory in the consolation bracket against Parkland College. The Falcons were once snake bitten by the Cobras in the past when they dropped games against Parkland at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2008 and 2009. This time a reverse in fortune had the Falcons flying high as they knocked of Parkland by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-14 and 25-21.

When a mortgage is refinanced, the proceeds of the new mortgage are used to pay off the old loan. The process is automatic, and invisible to the borrower.

Many homeowners are reporting, documents are routinely lost, faxed in, and lost again; that letters received from mortgage companies contradict what they're told on the phone; that agreements they thought they'd reached are mysteriously forgotten or canceled.


Lately, servicers have drawn fire for "robo-signing" records in foreclosure cases — bank employees sign court documents swearing to the accuracy of mortgage records they've never checked.

Here is what recently happened to a Kirkwood, Missouri Family:

David and Dorothea Kramme were loading their possessions into boxes last month and putting them on a truck. The Bank of America was foreclosing on their home of 21 years.

Their three children knew the home was in jeopardy. Eleven-year-old Kaitlynn turned to her mother and asked, "Are we going to have to live in the back of a car?"
It's a story repeated often across St. Louis as the economic slump costs thousands their homes.
But the Krammes' story is different. The family wasn't behind on the mortgage. They'd made every payment.

Instead, the bank was foreclosing based on an old loan that had been paid off when the family refinanced its mortgage in 2009. David Kramme said he explained that to bank representatives in increasingly desperate phone calls over several months. He says he couldn't get them to believe it.

On Friday, in response to a reporter's inquiry, Bank of America admitted its error and apologized.

The Krammes' unusual tale says something about the chaotic state of mortgage servicing in America, where Bank of America is one of the biggest players. Servicers are overwhelmed by record defaults and by delinquent homeowners pleading for a break. In the resulting confusion, even conscientious homeowners can get snagged.
