Vicious Attack on Wendy's Worker

MYFOXNY.COM - A fight broke out at a Wendy's in Queens Village, leaving one of the workers seriously injured. The disturbing scene from inside the Wendy's was captured on a phone on Friday. In the video, you can see the cashier get pummeled to the ground by teenage girls.
A Wendy's employee told Fox 5 that it started with one girl attacking the woman and a large group of them jumped in and punched her. The worker said it all began when the group started fighting and throwing food. She was behind the counter when her co-worker walked over to try and stop them, she said.
The woman who was attacked suffered a concussion and is currently unable to work.
Two of the teens have been identified by school officials as students at Martin van Buren High School, which is just down the block.  School officials said they are working closely with the NYPD to investigate the incident.

JANUARY 25--South Carolina cops are attempting to identify the participants in a wild brawl early Saturday at an International House of Pancakes, video of which has gone viral online.
As seen in the below clip--which includes some cursing--the female combatants are seen punching and wrestling with each other as tables are toppled. At one point, a woman picks up a coffee pot and strikes another woman in the head while she is being pinned to a table. Later, a man is seen swinging a cane at the woman who was struck with the coffee pot. The woman, adopting a lion tamer’s pose, picks up a chair and tosses it at the cane wielder.
When Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the IHOP at 5:10 AM, the fight participants had already departed. And despite the restaurant having been wrecked by the brawlers, security and management “did not want to pursue any charges on the incident,” according to a sheriff's report.

OAK LAWN, Ill. (AP) - A car salesman in suburban Chicago has been fired for refusing to remove a Green Bay Packers tie that he wore to work the day after the Packers beat the Chicago Bears to advance to the Super Bowl.
John Stone says he wore the Packers tie to work Monday at Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn to honor his late grandmother, who was a big Green Bay fan.
The sentimental gesture did not impress his boss, Jerry Roberts.
Roberts says the dealership has done promotions involving the Bears and he was afraid the tie could alienate the team's fans and make it harder to sell cars.
Roberts adds that Stone was offered five chances to take off the tie but he refused.

COLUMBIA, Mo. • Jury selection is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning in the trial of a 66-year-old Georgia grandfather accused of killing a Missouri waitress nearly 35 years ago.
Johnny Wright faces a second-degree murder charge in the August 1976 disappearance and presumed death of 23-year-old Rebecca Doisy, a former University of Missouri student.
Wright was first charged with murder in 1985 but not arrested until late 2009 after he sought a criminal background check in suburban Atlanta for a job application. Columbia police say that Wright has been living under an assumed identity for years in Georgia, where he raised a family.
Doisy's body was never found. A resident of her apartment complex reported seeing Doisy leave with Wright the day she went missing.

Rebecca Doisy, 23, wanted to be a teacher. She was studying for a degree in education at the University of Missouri in Columbia when, without warning, she disappeared, never to be seen again after accepting a date to have a drink with a man, Johnnny Wright, seven years her senior.

Rebecca had been working part-time as a waitress at Ernie's Restaurant, also in Columbia, during what she had intended to be only a temporary break from college when she met Wright.  Wright had been coming into Ernie's regularly, pestering her for a date. She finally agreed to have a drink with him at Ernie's on August 5, 1976.
Whatever she had been thinking, perhaps merely believing that a drink with the man at the establishment where she worked would be harmless, likely will never be known.  One thing is certain, though -- agreeing to the meeting turned out to be the worst decision of her young life...

When Rebecca failed to show up for work two days later, a concerned relative reported her missing.
"She never missed work," her younger sister, Kathleen Doisy, said. "She didn't show up, and that's when we knew something was wrong."

Because her body has never been found, there has been no way to determine whether she was raped or otherwise sexually abused, and no way to determine how she died short of a confession by the perpetrator. Although it seems likely that she was abducted, perhaps after voluntarily leaving the restaurant with Wright, and was later killed by some means of homicidal violence, the specific circumstances surrounding her disappearance and presumed death remain a mystery to this day.

There is still hope that this cold case will be solved, and that hope was heightened in late September when Wright walked into a Lawrenceville, Georgia police station, some 700 miles from Columbia, to order a background check on himself that he said was needed by a prospective employer.

According to Capt. Greg Vaughn, Wright was in possession of a newly-issued state ID card which he used to order the background check. Unfortunately for Wright, the ID card bore his real name and correct date of birth -- a stupid mistake on his part. When he returned the next day, September 23, to pick up the background check, he was promptly arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Columbia. Dating from 1985, the warrant accused him of Doisy's slaying.

"It just happened there were officers in the lobby when he walked in," Vaughn said.  "He basically paid $15 to get extradited to Missouri."
Police believe that Wright had been in Lawrenceville for at least a year -- he had even registered to vote there.
Wright was questioned right after Doisy disappeared, but was soon released due to lack of evidence. However, nine years later, in 1985, a warrant was issued for his arrest after a former acquaintance came to the police with new information about Doisy's case.

(CBS)  BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - "The King's Speech," the true story of an English monarch struggle to overcome a disability to lead his nation in a time of war, is front-runner for this year's Academy Awards.

The film received 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and its three main cast members.

Close behind are "True Grit," with 10 nominations. The Coen Brothers' remake of the classic western, starring Best Actor nominee Jeff Bridges (in the role that won John Wayne HIS Oscar); and "The Social network" the critically acclaimed tale of the founding of Facebook, with nine nominations.

Also receiving nine nominations: "Inception," a spectacular sci-fi thriller in which corporate espionage is conducted in the subconscious. But a surprise this morning was the lack of a Best Director nomination for that film's creator, Christopher Nolan.

Nominations for this year's Oscars were announced by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences this morning at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Other nominees in the race for Best Picture include: "127 Hours," the true-life story of a hiker forced to cut off his arm when he becomes trapped under a boulder; "Black Swan," a feverish psychosexual tale of a ballerina and her mad dash for perfection; "The Fighter," about a struggling boxer and his combative family dynamics; "The Kids Are All Right," a comedy-drama about a lesbian couple whose lives are turned upside-down after meeting the sperm donor who sired their children; "Toy Story 3," a 3-D computer-generated odyssey of toys seeking to escape a daycare center; and "Winter's Bone," in which a young girl combats criminal elements in her extended Missouri family in order to save her home.

In addition to Bridges, Best Actor nominees are Javier Bardem as a low-life seeking reconciliation in his relationships as he faces death in "Biutiful"; Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network"; Colin Firth as Britain's King George VI who must overcome a debilitating speech impediment in "The King's Speech"; and James Franco as Aron Ralston, who was forced to cut off his own arm to escape being trapped by a boulder in the UTAH wilderness in the true-life "127 Hours";

U.S. Postal Service Set to Close 2,000 Post Offices

The U.S. Postal Service will begin the process of closing as many as 2,000 postal offices in March and will review 16,000 more -- half of all existing post offices -- that are losing money, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The new round of closures is in addition to 491 that are already being shuttered.

The Wall Street Journal said the U.S. Postal Service is lobbying Congress to allow it to change the law so that it can close the most unprofitable among them.
At present, the service cannot shut an office for losing money, only in such cases as maintenance problems or expired leases, the newspaper says.

The U.S. Postal service is an independent agency funded primarily by postage fees, but is required by law to provide universal service to all parts of the country.

Former Governor Jesse Ventura has taken steps to sue the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security, naming their chiefs John Pistole and ‘Big Sis’ Janet Napolitano in a lawsuit that will take on invasive airport pat-downs [READ LAWSUIT]. Ventura first told Alex Jones of his intent to sue the TSA privately back in September while traveling for the making of TruTV’s “Conspiracy Theory,” expressing grave concern about what he viewed as his country’s transformation into East Germany.
Jones recalls Ventura’s outrage at the TSA’s harassing old people in wheelchairs with the invasive new pat-down procedures. The former governor himself is routinely sent to secondary screening due to a hip replacement in 2008, and Jones witnessed him undergo repeated humiliating searches during pat-downs at the hands of TSA. Worse, at airports across the country, even those presenting medical cards describing special needs or equipment from a doctor are routinely ignored as TSA agents demand that medical patients remove urostomy bags, prosthetic breasts or that TSA be allowed to grope a pacemaker patients’ breasts.
“That’s why I want to leave the United States,” Ventura had told Jones at the time. “This is why I go down to Mexico– this is wrong.” Ventura indicated that he was most concerned about the destruction of the 4th Amendment and passing of the America he once knew.
Ventura filed his lawsuit Monday, January 24, 2011 in Minnesota and news reports have named David Olsen as his lawyer. The former governor has indicated that his suit will include violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 4th Amendment, arguing that he and others with disabilities have been discriminated against and unduly singled out by TSA despite presenting no threat and warranting no reason for lawful search. Further, Ventura has argued that his ability to travel freely has been infringed, hampering his ability to work.
In November 2010, Ventura vowed on the Alex Jones Show that he would never again fly on commercial aircraft so long as current TSA policies remain in place. “It probably means an end to my career,” Ventura lamented on Jones’ program. As The Drudge Report exposed months ago, Ventura has been groped during TSA pat-downs and is uncomfortable with the invasion of privacy, as well as the abuse of government power.
Now, KSTP in Minnesota is reporting that:

“Ventura accuses the agencies of violating his ‘basic rights to privacy and dignity, and his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures’.” [...]
“Ventura.. alleges the pat-down included ‘warrantless, non-suspicion-based offensive touching, gripping and rubbing of the genital and other sensitive areas of his body,’ which, the lawsuit contends, met ‘the definition for an unlawful sexual assault’.”

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon wants to expand Missouri's program that provides free tuition to community colleges, making it available to all qualifying public school students who meet income guidelines.
The governor announced during his State of the State speech that he intends to push for expansion of the A-Plus program. The Democrat was in St. Louis Monday to outline his plan.
The program covers the cost of tuition and fees for two years at public community colleges or technical schools. High school students must meet academic, attendance and behavior guidelines and perform 50 hours of tutoring or mentoring.
But many high schools don't participate. Nixon's plan would provide the scholarships to any needy public school student in Missouri who meets the performance criteria.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A shop teacher at a New Mexico high school has been put on paid on leave after cell phone video surfaced of her locking up a student in an outdoor cage.
Santa Fe police say the 15-year-old boy was acting out in class on Jan. 7.
The teacher had other students help drag the boy outside and lock him in the chain-link enclosure used for storage.
Santa Fe Police Detective Sgt. Louis Carlos tells KOAT-TV in Albuquerque that the boy can be seen waving to classmates and eventually kicks the gate to free himself. Carlos calls the video disturbing and says the female teacher could face child abuse and false imprisonment charges.
The district attorney will determine if charges are warranted.
