Leslie Nielsen of 'Naked Gun' and 'Airplane dies at age 84 - Video Tribute

____________________________________________________________________________________

Leslie Nielsen, who went from drama to inspired bumbling as a hapless doctor in "Airplane!" and the accident-prone detective Frank Drebin in the "Naked Gun" comedies, has died. He was 84.

Nielsen died Sunday at a hospital near his home in Ft. Lauderdale where he was being treated for pneumonia.

The Canadian-born Nielsen came to Hollywood in the mid-1950s after performing in 150 live television dramas in New York. With a craggily handsome face, blond hair and 6-foot-2 height, he seemed ideal for a movie leading man.

He quickly became known as a serious actor, although behind the camera he was a prankster. That was an aspect of his personality never exploited, however, until "Airplane!" was released in 1980 and became a huge hit.

"Harry Potter" narrowly edges "Tangled" at the box office this weekend

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The seventh Harry Potter movie worked its magic at the box office this weekend, but tugging on his wand was a hirsute hideaway. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One" conjured an estimated $75 million for the five-day Thanksgiving holiday, while the Rapunzel reboot "Tangled" netted $70 million, exceeding expectations. Its box-office volume was double what analysts had expected.

Overall, the Thanksgiving feast was the second heartiest in Hollywood history.

Fighting for the leftovers were the Wednesday releases "Burlesque," "Love and Other Drugs" and "Faster," which finished fifth through seventh respectively, behind holdovers "Megamind" and "Unstoppable."

Another princess story, "Burlesque," starring Christina Aguilera as an Iowa gal-turned-exotic dancer and the ageless Cher as her fairy godmother, laid a faux-golden egg, despite a marketing campaign that included "Cher-aoke" contests at gay bars.

No major releases are slated for this coming Friday, Dec. 3, so "Harry Potter" and "Tangled" should continue to tussle for families' finances.

With the win, St. Louis moved into a tie with Seattle for first place in the NFC West.

After initially falling behind, the Rams went on a scoring spree and then held on, just enough, the rest of the way, for their first road victory.

It was the Rams' first road victory in nearly 13 months.

Rams led the Broncos by 20 after three quarters

The Rams' 36-point outburst marks the most points they've scored during Steve Spagnuolo's two seasons as coach.

The Bronco's were leading 10-0 late in the 1st quarter. Then the Rams took control for a while, with 5 unanswered scores. (3 TD's 2 FG's).

Sam Bradford threw for three TD passes - (308 yards & 3 TD's career highs)

WikiLeaks Shine Light Into Dark Secret Diplomatic Channels

______________________________________________________________________________

A cache of a quarter-million confidential American diplomatic cables, most of them from the past three years, provides an unprecedented look at backroom bargaining by embassies around the world, brutally candid views of foreign leaders and frank assessments of nuclear and terrorist threats.

Some of the cables, made available to The New York Times and several other news organizations, were written as recently as late February, revealing the Obama administration’s exchanges over crises and conflicts. The material was originally obtained by WikiLeaks, an organization devoted to revealing secret documents. WikiLeaks intends to make the archive public on its Web site in batches, beginning Sunday.

The anticipated disclosure of the cables is already sending shudders through the diplomatic establishment, and could conceivably strain relations with some countries, influencing international affairs in ways that are impossible to predict.

USA and South Korea launch war games in tense Yellow Sea

__________________________________________________________________________________

A U.S. supercarrier and South Korean destroyer took up position in the tense Yellow Sea on Sunday for joint military exercises that were a united show of force just days after a deadly North Korean artillery attack.

As tensions escalated across the region, with North Korea threatening another "merciless" attack, China belatedly jumped into the fray. Beijing's top nuclear envoy, Wu Dawei, called for an emergency meeting in early December among regional powers involved in nuclear disarmament talks, including North Korea.

Washington, which keeps 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect the ally, insists the routine drills were planned before last Tuesday's attack.

The exercises will take place over four days, but no live-fire drills are planned, said Cmdr. Jeff Davis, spokesman for the 7th Fleet in Japan.

Passenger Satisfaction to Attract More Flights - A new concept?

____________________________________________________________________________________
St. Louis mayor Francis Slay is responding to Lieutenant governor Peter Kinder's call to privatize Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

Kinder suggested that the City of St Louis, which operates Lambert, consider selling it to private investors, to make it more passenger friendly and to help the city's finances.

Mayor Slay responded on his blog Saturday that while it sounds like a good idea to sell the airport, the FAA would not allow the city to profit from the sale. All proceeds would have to go back to Lambert.

Mayor Slay also pointed out the airport is undergoing some major changes to improve passenger satisfaction and attract more flights.

Holiday mailing tips - Poor Packaging makes dead letters out of many gifts

Be Careful What You Send
& How You Send It!!!
___________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________

Holiday mailing tips

• Print addresses clearly and in capital letters.
• Include "to" and "from" information on packages — only on one side.
• Mark packages that contain breakable material with "Fragile," in large print.
• Never guess at a ZIP code. No ZIP code is better than a wrong ZIP code.
• Select a box strong enough to protect the contents.
• Cushion contents with shredded or rolled newspaper, bubble wrap or foam peanuts. Plain air-popped popcorn is also good for cushioning. Pack contents tightly to avoid shifting during transit.
• Always use tape that is designed for shipping. Do not use wrapping paper, string, masking tape or cellophane tape.
• Place an extra label with delivery and return address inside package.
• Remove batteries from toys. Wrap separately.
• Stuff glass and fragile hollow items, like vases, with newspaper or packing material to avoid damage. When mailing framed ph

The employees at the U.S. Postal Service's mail recovery center in Atlanta put up a Christmas tree every year. But it's not the tree you want your gifts to go beneath.

Christmas is the busiest time at the recovery center - or dead letter office, as postal service employees commonly refer to it.

Items end up there when they can neither be delivered nor returned because the recipient's and return addresses are missing, incorrect or illegible.

Dead letter center employees open thousands of Christmas packages and cards each year - many containing cash - in an effort to deliver misrouted mail to the proper address.

Many of those items make a stop in St. Louis on their way to Atlanta at the mail-sorting center at 1720 Market Street.
At Christmas time, poor packaging makes dead letters out of many gifts.

Another common problem: Metal items, such as car keys and jewelry, sent in regular envelopes.

After the sorting machine spits the contents out, they end up at what postal employees call the "loose-in-the-mail" section of the downtown facility.

Lambert and other employees will try to determine where mail is meant to go before they forward it to Atlanta. Sometimes, they have enough clues - a few numbers, part of a name, an Express Mail stamp - to properly dispatch the item.

Lambert is not allowed to open such packages to look for clues; first class mail is considered sealed against opening. Only employees at the dead letter office, or police officers with a search warrant, can open them.

However, a dead letter package does not always have to be opened to determine its contents.

Fish sent from China, for instance, is one of the more common items that ends up misrouted.
