Special Weather Statement | ||
Statement as of 4:13 PM CST on December 18, 2010 ... Light snow and ice accumulations possible through Monday night... A couple of fast moving systems will impact the bi-state region over the next couple of days. The first will impact the area with snow and will begin moving in later this evening for parts of northeast and central Missouri and expand into west central Illinois and perhaps the far northern and western Saint Louis suburbs by late tonight and Sunday morning. The snow will then continue for areas mainly in northeast Missouri and west central Illinois on Sunday and transition to east of the Mississippi River by Sunday night. This system will be unusual in that the snow that falls will be localized in nature and not necessarily impact a widespread area... at least at the beginning. Snow will become more widespread later on Sunday. Snow amounts are expected to be an inch or less for most areas... with localized amounts as high as 2 inches. Another weak storm system will overspread light precipitation beginning Monday and continue into Monday night. The precipitation is expected to initially be snow for a brief time before becoming rain... or for some parts of northeast Missouri and west central and southwest Illinois... freezing rain or drizzle. This transition is expected to occur by Monday night. Light ice accumulations will be possible for areas that receive freezing precipitation... especially on untreated surfaces. |
